An electric scooter for kids is not a new toy. You can see them around in different designs for decades. Almost all kids love to have their mini bikes. Although these are only high-tech improvements to the old style scooters. With an electric scooter, kids can go faster than a bicycle without getting any serious injuries (only if they maintain upright balance). Not only older kids love to gallivant around with an electric scooter, but younger kids also like this toy. Because they can handle it easily side by side, keeping themselves in an upright position. Moreover, most of the scooters are foldable and take less space to store in the home.
Keep in view the above-mentioned points I thought to buy an electric scooter for my child this Christmas. I searched many e-scooters and read the reviews of buyers (which were less in number) to choose the best one for my kid. But the important point will be my review of the product. Okay, let’s go back to the point of searching for a mini bike online. Two electric scooters captured my attention one was the Razor E300 Electric Scooter, and the other one was the Viro Rides Vega Transforming 2 in 1 Electric Scooter. I checked the price, frame, breaks, battery, range, performance, and some other details of both scooters. After comparing them, I decided to go with Vega for my 9-year-old kid.
VIRO Rides Vega 2 in 1 Electric Scooter
Not all, but many significant features of Vega 2-in-1 scooter grab my attention. Firstly, I recommend this scooter to parents for its conversion from a scooter to a mini bike. I didn’t have to pick or choose one among both the longings of my child, rather found both the bike and the scooter in one and the same reasonably priced array. Now he keeps screaming around while riding on it, standing all the way long and yet there goes the sitting relief, following the quick transformation, as soon as he gets tired. Other appreciable features include;
- Perfect for kids weighing 37-54-kg (81-120 lbs.).
- Foldable electric scooter
- 10 miles per hour or 16 km/hour, it’s safe for kids.
- 100 Watts battery output capacity.
- 24V 5Ah (2 x 12V) Rechargeable SLA Battery type.
- L x W x H = 38.4 in x 15.9 in x 38.0 in. (975mm x 405mm x 965mm)
All about the VIRO Vega Scooter
Being a mother, I consciously choose those toys for my child, which are safe and durable. Except focusing on the electrical details, I didn’t overlook the quality of the frame. The Vega looks sturdy with aluminum and steel frame and 7-inch Polyurethane wheels. Available in green color, it seems perfect for my 53kg 8+ kid. As he loves bright colors. Keep in mind the weight of your kid. If the kid is above 54-kg, no need to choose this scooter. Another elegant feature is the simplicity and safety in design.
Just like the frame, I didn’t ignore the braking system of the VIRO Vega scooter. The lever-activated rear safety brakes never let the scooter stop abruptly or disturb the balance of riding individual. Moreover, the break is attached to the left side of the handlebar. So, my lovely kid can apply the brake with a hand which is more convenient and safe.
I contentedly watched the kid cherishing while speeding the Vega scooter and controlling it through the comfy thumb-control throttles which have proven very much beneficial in providing the little rider with variable speed controls. The handlebars are highly adjustable according to the rider’s comfort.
The motor power varies from model to model, but of course, a high power motor gives more speed and are mostly long-lasting. This scooter performs well with a covered 100 Watt DC brush motor. It is perfectly fit to VIRO Vega scooter to ensure a kid-friendly speed. There are other electric scooters with high-power batteries. However, I picked this one because of its speed to give more fun and safety to my little rider.
I heard a noise when my little friend enjoyed a ride under my supervision. On deep research about its features, I came to know that the little noise is just because of the chain drive attached to the DC motor. This chain is more reliable than the belt drive, although belt drive scooters are fairly soundless. But I am happy to prefer durability rather than a quiet gadget.
The life of the electric scooter depends upon battery life. Because the battery is the component that provides power to a scooter. Lithium based batteries are more expensive than lead-acid batteries. Lithium based batteries ensure minimum power loss and have a long battery life. Some well-known brands including the Razor scooter use lithium-based batteries because of its matchless features. Unfortunately, this VIRO Vega scooter is equipped with a lead-acid battery. The life of this battery is only 3-5 years.
The Vega 2-in-1 scooter speed is only 10 miles per hour. It’s safe for a very young kid of 8 years old. Other competitive brands are offering bikes with speed up to 15 mph to 20 mph. But they are too fast and perfect for 8+ kids. Moreover, a single time charging keeps the kid riding for 40 minutes. But the charging time is very slow that is 12 hours.
The high visibility LED lights fixed on the front are surely adding to the worth of the VIRO rides Vega 2 in 1 transforming electric scooter. My child uses them as an instrument to make others know that he is racing towards them and can also utilize them for viewing the upcoming hurdles while riding in darkness.
The Viro Rides Vega Transforming 2 in 1 Electric Scooter also incorporates dual kickstands that keep it upright and erect at the time of parking, both in the scooter and bike mode. The spring-loaded foldaway mechanisms of both the kickstands are durable and highly expedient.
Simple Scooter: The Vega scooter has an elegant simple appeal. It’s not very complicated to us assemble and specially designed to keep in mind the child safety option.
Foldable: The folding mechanism of the VIRO Vega is outstanding. I can easily fold or unfold it. This feature makes it portable and easy to store scooter.
Price: At below $300, this Vega 2-in-1 scooter seems to be a reasonable price with high-quality components, sturdy frame, easy to control brake system, and covered motor with chain drive.
Adult Supervision: An 8-year-old child can never fold or unfold it by its own. Because it’s weight is 19.7-Kg (43.43 lbs.). That is too heavy for a kid. He may get injured if you don’t assist him in converting it from bike to scooter.
Slow Speed for Younger Kids: There are many scooters with high speeds in the market for 8+ year kids. But the speed of the VIRO Vega is just 10mph.
Availability: After getting it for the kid. I randomly checked a few stores online. But it was out of stock there.
Conclusively, gaining a trendy mini bike and an electric scooter with safe and secure, easy handling and transporting qualities while costing you under $300, could not be termed as a blessing that is endowed frequently!
For the sake of mentioning some of its loopholes, it is pertinent to mention that it is not a real electric mini bike, but a kind of advance toy ride for the kids. Further, its heavy weight makes it difficult for the child to control it and to ride it around. Not to be forgotten to mention, the battery takes a lot of time to get charged fully and this turns to be irritating at times.
However, I would not only come up with a mere suggestion but would recommend the parents of kids above 8 to gift this amazing ride to their loved ones. Overall, it would be a good starting vehicle for the kid to learn and enjoy. Let them ride the evolution and let yourself inhale the pleased air full of their laughter!
