Stealth Electric Bikes Reviews (2019)

2

No doubt the discussion about electric bicycles is a hot topic in the bike rider community. But for new readers, I will recap the history of e-bikes in Australia. The government of this country has set the power range of 200W for all street-legal e-bikes. 200W seems very low power in the bike market where the bikes with higher power limits are available like stealth bikes. Stealth, an Australian e-bike manufacturing company stands alone with high-speed electric bikes. The john Karambalis (stealth founder) combines versatility, reliability, and power to design each Stealth Bike. Since 2008 this company has introduced Stealth B-52, Stealth F-37, Stealth H-52, Stealth P-7, and Stealth-P-7R. The first machine of the Stealth is the Bomber e-bike with the speed the riders will never experience. The little brother of the Stealth Bomber is Fighter 37. I will share the details of all stealth bikes with you guys and my effort to make my own stealth bike.

Stealth Bomber – The Fastest Electric Bike

Few manufacturers of the electric bike took a bold step to ignore the federal laws for e-bikes and introduced fastest bikes for all enthusiastic bike riders. Stealth Bomber and Stealth Fighter with matchless performance and ample acceleration are well-reputed bikes in the e-bike community. The 120 pound Stealth Bomber runs at the speed of 50 miles per hour. If a rider chooses flat ground, the single charging lasts up to 50 miles at 15 miles per hour (A really great performance). It carries LiFePO4 (1,500-Wh) 83V / 20-Ah battery in a shell. And the frame shape is similar to Optibike and Phasor because this shape allows awesome clearance and full suspension. Most of the bomber bike riders share their first impression that it is a heavyweight bike and its pedals are for legality.

With appealing wiring and rear hub motor position, the bomber is truly a real electric bike. Its full suspension custom frame with the high-quality Vboxx gearbox maintains top speed even when the bomber battery dies. Moreover, a rider can enjoy the 9-speed pedal transmission system. The Vboxx gives a very neat look to the bike without shifter cables and Derailleurs. But then again, we cannot ignore the likely breakage which requires maintenance. Overall, the riding of the frame depends on a customized suspension system and swing arm. The backswing arm in combination with front suspension improves riding experience. The riders not only enjoy the plush feel but also satisfying ride with the suspension.

Almost all junctures of Stealth Bomber are based on mountain bike mechanisms. Besides having the most appreciable mid-range suspension fork, tires, bicycle wheels, seat and handlebars, the RST-R1 fork is not liked for being heavyweight. Although the 5304 crystallites 25-pound motor are heavy yet reliable for years to come. The powerhouse is waterproof and silent in performance. The Bomber is equipped with 20ah 72 volt lifepo4 batteries. It takes 2 hours to charge utilizing household standard current. Built-in Cycle Analyst into frame gives a wonderful touch to the Bomber.

As far as the repair warranty is concerned, it favors the rider’s interest. In case of finding a faulty part, Stealth is liable for sending a new part for replacement. As a Bomber rider, you need to have good knowledge of electronic basics used On this bike like the battery, controller and a hub motor. You may need this sort of information in the future. Moreover, the price of the bomber is 10k-14k plus shipment charges. This price variation is because of the option the buyer chooses. I am going to conclude the bomber specifications in a few words. It is a long range, quiet, agile, fast, and cool bike for with 116-pound weight.

Stealth Fighter – An Electric Mountain Bike

Stealth Fighter – An Electric Mountain Bike

After visiting the Stealth Electric Bike official page, the majority of people like Stealth Bomber. Because it is equipped with impressive figures, matchless performance, and aggressive lines. At the same time, the number of people is not less, who look more closely at the Stealth Fighter just because of some good reasons. The first and most attractive reason is the cost difference that is really a genuine reason. My closer look at the Fighter will help you to understand why the Stealth Fighter bike riders are increasing day by day.

  • Stealth Fighter is 34-kg (75lbs) while the bomber is 53-kg (116lbs).
  • Ultra-strong front swing arm and Cro-Mo frame
  • RST Stock forks with 180mm travel
  • DNM air shock rear suspension with 200mm swing arm travel
  • Lockout system on rear shock to push pedals

The pedal Driveline has no derailleur or tensions to ensure safe riding even through uneven terrain. A negative point of this bike is the movement of the bottom bracket with the suspension. But this movement is not visible while riding. The HS3540 motor with custom winding is designed to for 50kph speed at 48V. Other attractive features include high-quality bearings

  • Swing arm compatible long axle
  • Single speed 14-tooth wheel
  • 38-tooth chainring
  • 24-inch rim with quality spokes
  • Razor-Back 3-inch tires (Schwalbe Crazy Bob 2 ½” tires for low-cost option)

The power output varies according to legal requirements and statutory of specific countries. For example for US e-bike market, the speed of the Stealth Fighter is set at 20-mph with 750W output power. If I talk about the battery life and performance of the Stealth Fighter. It works efficiently for 1000 cycles. It means a rider can enjoy fast bike riding for 7 years if he uses the Fighter three times per week. Another good point is the quick removal of the battery and its 120 minutes charging time.

Stealth P-7

Stealth P-7

The behavior of Stealth manufacturers is opposite to other e-bike companies. As their first attention is towards selling street-legal commuters and then they move to off-road bikes. Stealth changed the path and introduced off-road first. Now stealth has launched its first street-legal bike that is (750 W) P-7. In this new model, the manufacturers have used many parts of previous models. For example, the brakes are similar to Stealth Bomber 52 which are large disc 203mm hydraulic caliper.

If we look at the frame, it is a FUTR Beta evolution. There are bottom bracket, non-triangulated swingarm, a slim battery box, and swingarm pivot. But few upgraded features in P-7 make it more expensive than FUTR. The Stealth P-7R bike is also identical to P-7 in terms of features. The differences between these two are of top speed, range, and battery capacity. See chart for more details. Other features of P-7 include;

  • 180mm stroke front suspension travel
  • 120mm rear travel
  • Off-road 1,000W
  • 52V battery
  • Weight is 29-kg (64-lb)

Stealth Hurricane – 52

Stealth Hurricane – 52

The Stealth H-52 is not a pedal assist bike but it has pegs to support the feet while fast riding. Its siblings the Bomber and Fighter comes with pedals. The wheels, shocks, frame and many parts of H-52 resemble the Bomber bike. It also has a 1.5 kWh battery pack and 72V power with 20amp capacity. The Lithium Iron Phosphate cells in Hurricane battery are long-lasting and it takes 4 hours to charge for 2 hours riding time. The only weakness of stealth bikes is the weight. Other than that, these bikes are considered the best bikes to ride. Just like other stealth bikes, the tires, brakes, and front forks are customizable. And the rider has the choice to choose the small or large battery. The small battery is 3000W and a larger battery is 4500w.

How to build one own “stealth electric bike”?

Like all bike lovers, I also had a dream of having my own ebike. And, my quest traveled around Australian-based stealth bikes ‘the perfect combination of self-satisfactory electro-mechanics’. Ah! I could just imagine a riding pleasure with the Stealth Bomber for $10,400.00. However, I seriously thought about making a high-power electric bike on my own. It was not an easy task but, I set my budget of $2500 and planned on purchasing the best-quality stuff. After planning my budget, I jumped onto youtube to learn about the basic parts to be used. My aim was to bring quality, power and features together like my dream bike ‘the Stealth Bomber’.

I went to eBay to order a frame and start waiting for it impatiently. It took two weeks to get it. Well, once I had received it, I ordered a suspension, a 19” front wheel and a motor of 5kw laced into the motorcycle rim of 19”.  It was very difficult for me to get an affordable 150A TFT display sine wave regulator. Among so many manufacturers of sine wave motor controller, I found salvation the best.

 Stealth Bomber Frame

Stealth Bomber Frame

My struggle for a high-quality battery pack is still in process. The lifepo4 will work wonders. I am sure I will find the required dimensions of 350*140*180mm.  For a custom made battery my friend told me about EM3EV. I checked it and sent an email for a narrow pack (130mm-135mm) and ordered 72v 24.5ah with 25R cells, moto seat, and 4A charger. Sorry, I forgot to mention the dimensions of battery box which are 340mm x 120mm x 150mm according to Candy Song (the manufacturer). And the frame is 140mm inner walls. After installing forks the frame looks like:
After loose assembling of bars and front end, I noticed that the tube is undersized for 44mm bearings. I discussed this issue with my friend again, he told me that he can give me his press and boring tool to fix it.

After borrowing tools from the friend, I widened the headset and pressed it to fit the frame. This front end seems good now. I also ordered 5V fans to keep the battery cool and have received them. I am also thinking about fixing one fan internally right above the battery. I have also bought the chain, chainring, crank, rotors, and hydraulic Tektro brakes from the same guy, who gave me other electronics and wheels. At this moment I am also waiting for screen, controllers, front wheel, and hub motor.

To buy online products is really a time-consuming task. As I order one item and weight for a week or more to receive it. Here is good news that I got dc-dc converters with two steps one is down to 12v and the other is 12v down to 5v. The second step is for USB ports and fan. I will mount all these parts once I receive the controller and battery.

Finally, I got a reply from the seller that he has shipped the controller, brakes, and wheels. After wheels installation, I will decide about the stand. Moreover, I want to use it as an off-road machine so I ordered pit bike pegs. I am also thinking about mounting two batteries. The one I ordered from EM3EV and the other is 160A BMS I build it for my scooter. Let’s see how these settings will work.

Now the wait for bike parts is going to an end as I have received many parts. I would like to share one more thing that I bought brakes from green tree e-bike Co on Alibaba in just $120. I struggled to mount the tire, but I can’t do it. So, I thought to go to the bike shop to help me in mounting tires. Luckily, they agreed to mount tires and the next part is to mount wheels, rotors and motor testing. While doing this I noticed the controller is not working properly. So, I need to find the app to support the salvation program. If anyone else has a suggestion, he can share it with me. It will help me to build my dream bike and will help others to get the right information on a single platform.

As I said I will use two batteries, so I have pulled the scooter battery to check the screen, controller, and motor. I work with this battery until I receive the other one.

Well, I am going to make a lot of progress now. As I have collected the wheels back, fixed the battery (scooter battery) into the bay, mounted the brakes and downloaded the app. I took this bike for a test ride without a chain. Because I want to check the working on other parts. If you have the same issue of the app, please follow these steps;

  • Go to the app store
  • Download MQCON
  • Disconnect 3 wire connector from the controller
  • Make sure the Bluetooth is on your phone
  • Turn on the bike
  • Open downloaded MQCON and hit the button to connect

After the test ride, I noticed that the temperature of the battery is 95F. I rode just two miles and pulled 1.5-5Kw. The controller was also warm, but the motor performance is disappointing. I think I am using the bay battery.

I tried another thing. I put 2ml storage to a hub to check how it works.

I also made torque arm plates on the mill and fixed the controller outside the frame. Because it was tight when I fit it inside. To hide all wiring I will use a skid plate. Actually, I want to use it like a dirtbike. As I have received my new battery so I will set a new parameter through the above mentioned Bluetooth app.

In a real test ride, I noticed a problem in the front suspension. I will fix the suspension issue but don’t want to spend more budget. This time the battery temperature was still high. There was an error in TFT screen and it was showing 07h error. The motor was also too hot. I was really disappointed with the performance and thought to pack this effort. You will notice in the pics that because of the high temperature the hall sensor yellow wire is de-soldered. I fixed this issue and thought about these errors. I will buy QS205 V3 to improve the bomber bike performance and thinking of getting new spokes and a motor. Ah! I need to manage more budget for this expensive upgrade.

Thanks to a friend, as he recommends an Aliexpress seller for QS motor.
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc … 2086dpijS2

He also asked me to do a hall test. Oh, that’s the big mistake I made. I didn’t consider the hall test and facing these issues.

From the above seller, I am going to get QS and motor lacing into a wheel that is 19-inch at $500. This price is reasonable if I compare it to the bike shop. I have a question in mind, I think I should ask it first. If anyone has good knowledge, he can share it with me in wheelsgo community. In the picture below, there are hall connections. The white wire in the motor area is for the thermostat and the controller side has an empty slot. So, the question is, do I fix the white wire in another place. If yes, please let me know where? As there is no other connector. Any discussion about it would be appreciated.

During the wait for QS, I did two new things. At first, I worked on the charging without removing the side panel. For it, I made a plate of plastic. And the other thing was to enclose the wiring with rtv, rivets, and plastic.

As I ordered a pit bike throttle kit on Amazon is $13.  I have received all those parts.

http://www.eastgem.net/throttle-adapter.html

Now I will assemble all parts and think about how these work. I will also disconnect the throttle connector, especially 3-pin connector and connect it to the adapter. As it will be good for off-road riding. After doing this, I tested another ride and felt that this riding is really fun. Eagerly waiting for QS.

Here are some good sellers to get bike fender on eBay.

Front fender: https://www.ebay.com/itm/T-H-E-Proline- … 0005.m1851

Rear fender: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Plastic-Rear-F … 2749.l2649

My other progress regarding throttle is shown in the pictures. I mounted throttle adapter inside the box of the battery and made an adapter plug from old throttle for the salvation. After it, I added grease on all internal parts. This time on quick ride my bike remained silent.

I purchased forks from the bike frame vendor. I will not recommend that vendor. If you want to buy a quality product you can to this vendor.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exclusive-DNM- … %7Ciid%3A1
Finally, I am happy with the QS205. The quality of the motor and the size of the wires are really good.

I have collected all parts, I mean the wheels and a new motor. After installing them, I went for another test ride. This electric bicycle showed good performance on 100 battery amps and 250 phase amps. In excitement, I changed the phase up to 350A. There were no wheelies it was disappointing. I think I should change the battery amps up to 150A. But it may harm to Bummer or BMS. Keeping aside all these errors, this time riding is really fun.

If you are interested to build your own bomber bike, you can get valuable information from here. Or if you have already built your stealth bomber, you can share your experience with wheelsgo.net.

Cheers!
